Sweetie and Poppy's 60th Wedding Anniversary

2009 has been a year of many big events in our family.
Not only did both of my parents celebrate their 80th birthdays, but they also celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Of course, we had a party. Our family looks for any reason to celebrate and this was a big one.

I'll explain more later about the very special scrapbook they are reading.

Although Poppy and Sweetie's grandson Jon and his wife Bethany (far right on couch) live in Arkansas, they were able to be home for the big event. That was especially important because although each member of the family had a part in creating the scrapbook, Jon is the creative genius who put it all together.

The cake was beautiful as well as delicious.

Each family brought a bouquet of flowers to celebrate the day.

The very special scrapbook that the family wrote and Jon put together was entitled
"The Things We Have Learned from Sweetie and Poppy".
I will include some of the quotes below, but if you ever want to read all the things that we have learned, ask to see the book when you visit Sweetie and Poppy's house or the homes of any of their children. We all have a copy to help us remember the lessons they have taught us.

The following are only a few of the many things we have learned from Sweetie and Poppy. Some of these lessons are silly, some are more serious. Some we learned many years ago and some we learned just the other day. All of these lessons have stuck with us through the years and have helped us stay on the right path. A fun, beautiful path.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Proverbs 22:6

If your family is happy and laughs a lot, your friends will like to spend time at your home.

Good grandparents will drive their great grandson to Texarkana to escape a hurricane even though they are headed to Dallas.

Poppy used his saw and tools to make the best toy trains when I was little, and then pulled them out to help me make an "indo board" in college even though he didn't know what in the world it was. Anything for a grandson.

There are no in-laws, just sons and daughters.

If you need a tool, Poppy has it.
If he doesn't have it, Terry already borrowed it.
If Terry doesn't have Poppy's tool, Mike probably does.

If you get hit by a car, and your parents are in Hawaii, no one will take better care of you than Sweetie and Poppy.

When your children are cranky, it is because they are teething or they are tired.

Butterflies and Rainbows is way better than Girl Scouts.

Only adults are allowed to laugh at the dinner table.

When you are stressing over the newest childhood issue, just remember "This too shall pass."

Love your grandchildren with all your heart and they will love you back.

Happy Anniversary (Again) Sweetie and Poppy!

This makes me even more excited, if that's possible, to be reunited for Thanksgiving!

The comment about Butterflies and Rainbows brought tears to my eyes. It was WAY better than Girl Scouts. I pray that my girls will have women like Sweetie who will also influence them and take an interest in teaching them. I loved Butterflies and Rainbows and I think that Teachers in Training was one of the best things I could have done as a teenager.

Oh, what a precious legacy those two have.

And that quote about Butterflies and Rainbows brought back some great memories. There was no better teacher than Sweetie.
