Paris Trip 2018

Image
Our Fearless Leader, Jeana, found some very inexpensive tickets to Paris on Iceland Air. Three of us answered her call to  adventure and began planning our trip. Really, Jeana planned our trip, and  we were along for the ride of a lifetime.  No, this is not Paris, but our stop in Iceland. When we went to retrieve our rental car, Sylvia, our new friend, advised us that a blizzard would arrive at 12:00 noon. So we took off adventuring after a night of flying and very little sleep. And, yes, we did get stuck in a huge snowstorm, but our intrepid (Montana) driver, Jeana maneuvered us through the storm and even managed to get us out of a snowdrift. We experience the beautiful snow-covered landscape of Iceland. I would love to go back in the summer. Following are just a few highlights of the Paris trip. The Catacombs of Paris were fascinating. Imagine seeing some 6 million bones from an early Parisian cemetery and learning how this most unusual Tourist att...

A Visit to Salida

Image
Because both of our children had their other families in town for  Christmas Day, and because we had already had our Gibson family Christmas, David and I decided to explore a little town in Colorado that we had heard about called Salida.   We left home on Christmas Day at about noon. We fortified ourselves with lunch and lots of car snacks because we didn't know if there would be anything open on Christmas evening. We were pleasantly surprised to find a little Italian restaurante just a short distance from our motel which was open on Christmas. Does anyone know what New England Style Dining is? We couldn't figure it out.   We drove around town and saw the most delightful sight.  A hill at the very end of the Main Street, was decorated to look like a giant Christmas tree. It was hard to get a good angle to do it justice especially since all I had with me to snap a picture was my Iphone.   A local Methodist church had this unique Nativi...

Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Image
We took a short trip to Glenwood Springs when my sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Randy came to visit. We checked out the Amtrak station since Sweetie and I plan a train trip here soon. For some reason, this sign tickled my funny bone. The hot springs pools were beautiful and so relaxing. Good conversations. The largest pool was 2-3 blocks long. We took a tram to the top of the mountain where there was an amusement park. Kim and Randy David and Karen None of us braved this swing which soared out into the open sky at the top of the mountain. I'm sure the views were awesome if you were brave enough to open your eyes. I travel with such nice looking people. Randy braved the roller coaster which went down the hill. The rest of us watched him. I sat with my feet propped up and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

40th Anniversary Day Trip

Image
David and I decided that we wanted to escape for a day and explore the west side of the front range to celebrate our anniversary. David cannot take a trip without snacks and I must admit that I was more than willing. This junk food really tasted good because I have been dieting lately. Much of the land was very flat driving to Breckenridge.  We found this field filled with timber fascinating.   One of the very small towns we drove through was Alma.  The 10,578 on the sign is definitely not the population, but the altitude.   Not a Wal-Mart in sight, but they didn't need one. What captivated me most about Breckenridge was their beautiful flowers.  I will do a separate post to allow you to see the beauty. Hanging baskets everywhere. We ate lunch at this little hole in the wall. David loves breakfasts and he can probably count on one hand the number of really good breakfasts I have made him in our 40 years of marriage. ...
