Labor Day Balloon Festival

Image
As some of you might have heard, we had to cancel our trip to Oregon for my nephew's wedding and for our annual sibling trip because my sweet husband had another kidney stone surgery last week. As you can imagine, I was just a little bit sad about being home while my family was celebrating. Jeremy knows how much I love the Labor Day Balloon lift off in our town, so he and Caleb and Aaron picked me up at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, Mandy was working and David was recuperating. We parked in our traditional spot across the lake and enjoyed the sights. My friend Brenda Brizendine got a terrific picture of a balloon and its reflection in the lake. That's what I was going for in this picture.   Mine doesn't compare to hers. No, this little girl is not part of our party, but our grandchildren make friends wherever they go. Darth Vadar was a huge hit with the boys. Yoda was also impressive. The Mardi Gras clown was...

Nana Cousin Camp 2015 KNIGHT Edition

Image
Our most recent Nana Cousin Camp had a KNIGHT theme. Using the water bottles I had  on hand, I printed the labels from HERE . Since they weren't really Soda or Cola, we added Crystal Light On the Go Drink Packets but they were really MAGIC powders in case you wanted to know. We had an object lesson about the Armor of God.  You can find it HERE. It would have been even more impressive if the peeled orange had sunk to the bottom like it was supposed to. I don't think any of the kids realized that Nana kept manually pushing it down.    They then made Knights out of food.  These pictures pretty much capture each grandchild's personality. Find Knight Food Directions HERE .   They each made their own shield. And of course the highlight of the day was the jousting. Feel free to skip some of these video clips.  I am posting them for posterity (or to embarrass them when they are older.)...

Nana Cousin Camp 2015--Planting a Rainbow Edition

Image
Our theme this week was Planting a Rainbow. The books we used were Planting a Rainbow by Lois Ehle t and  Noah and the Animals by Prue Theobalds  In the interest of being real, this experiment was somewhat of  a Pinterest FAIL! One of our snacks was rainbow jello suggested by Caleb. This was one of the successes of the evening. For the project explained below, we needed several colors of live flowers.  The first FAIL issue probably started when thrifty Nana decided that "day old" flowers found at the back of the store would work just fine.  WRONG!   The idea was to put a sheet of clear contact paper on a window, sticky side out.  We had one for each grandchild.  They were to take the flowers (which by this time were falling apart at a rapid rate) and attach them to the sticky side to make a BEAUTIFUL rainbow garden. You will see what it REALLY looked like later in this post. Pasta boiled in food c...
