Health Update--September 2014

I'm sincerely sorry to be updating you on my health through Social Media, because there are so many people who I would like to tell in a more personal way, but this seems like the most efficient way to get the news out to the many people who I would like to ask to pray for me.

As many of you know, I have blood work every 3-6 months to determine if my cancer is still under control.  For a while, the numbers have been slightly elevated, but my oncologist felt that it wasn’t anything to worry about.  Because the numbers were not leveling off, she recently decided that she needed to do a pet scan.  What were found were two very small spots on my spine (too small to biopsy to determine if the breast cancer has metastasized.)  I talked to my radiologist, and we have decided to have a cyber knife procedure done on those spots.  This should get rid of them in 1-5 sets of radiation, and I shouldn’t have any side effects except some tiredness and a little soreness.  Although it is called a cyber knife, it is actually very specific radiation pointed at a direct spot.  I had the MRI and CT scan last Friday so the doctors can make my specific plan for the cyber knife procedure.  It should be in the next two weeks.

I am so lucky that I have doctors who are very proactive.  I want to stress that I am feeling good and strong physically and am optimistic emotionally, but of course, hoping and praying that this procedure gets rid of those spots.  The favor I ask is that people don’t treat me like I’m sick because I don’t feel sick.

Your prayers and God’s care sustained me 3 years ago.  I know I can count on that again.

Love you,

Karen

PS.  You might ask, why the picture of the flower?  Well, blog posts just don't seem complete without pictures and selfies are just not all that flattering, but flowers are always beautiful.  :)

I"m so thankful for this form of treatment that can put you back on the road to great health again. I promise I will be praying for you and the doctors all along the way. I cherish you, and wish you didn't have to go through this, but praise God there are good treatments to take care of it. Hope we can see you sometime soon!

I am so thankful that you have God's faithfulness in your last bought to give you reference for this time. Your positivism is definitely important as you approach this next step. I know it wasn't easy to share, but as you said, you now are guaranteed great prayer coverage.

Father God, we come to you with Karen's names on our hearts and lips and ask you to make this procedure be what is needed to once again take the cancer out of Karen's body and restore her numbers to where they need to be. We gave You praise before and we will do so again. Please give Karen and David the strength that they will need to go through this next step in their journey. Thank You God for hearing this prayer in the name of your Son, Jesus.
