He Leadeth Me

Sweetie and Kim came to Colorado to visit us last week and we had a great time. The weather was gorgeous for us. Can you tell we are mother and daughters? They had fun with 2 of the grands as Sweetie calls her great grandchildren. Aaron loved Sweetie's balloons as much as his brother did when he was that age. Superheros were willing to snuggle. When we visited the Broadmoor, the geese were out and walking on water. (It was actually ice.) The pond was partially frozen, but the sun was warm. The Broadmoor Breakfast Buffet was a big hit! When I was visiting, my grandson, David last week, I offered to babysit him while his parents had a very well deserved breakfast out. The only problem was that Nana needed to get a few things accomplished. Wa! La! David loves being in the laundry basket. So in he went. He had fun! Nana got things done. Where there's a will, there's a way! Of course, I soon couldn't resist this smiling face and had to rescue the little guy and give him some hugs and kisses!

Our little guys are learning to eat and it is so much fun to watch. You should see David going after English peas. He loves them, and yes, there were a few on his clothes and a few on the floor, but lots of them made it into his little tummy. Somehow Aaron managed to get a package of bread onto the kitchen floor. The little guy was in carbohydrate heaven. Ahhh! Food, Glorious Food!

I am in Dallas this week visiting my grandson, David, along with his mom and dad. He is such a fun little guy. We have read, laughed endlessly, and played lots of games. He is crawling all over the place and Nana is working hard to keep up with him. He's even being a good sport about going places with Nana and his Mama. And just check out that red hair. Fun times!!! Those of us who love children's books wait with great anticipation for the American Library Association awards each January. At 7:45 this morning, the awards were announced. If you weren't lucky enough to be in Florida for the announcements, (I wasn't), you can get the complete list of awards at the link above. The Caldecott Medal went to...... Honor Books were: Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave illustrated by Bryan Collier written by Laban Carrick Hill and Interrupting Chicken written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein. The Newbery Medal went to...... Newbery Honor Books are: Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm Heart of a Samurai by Margi Preus Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night by Joyce Sidman, illustrated by Rick Allen One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia I have not read any of these books, but that will be remedied very soon. Some "old" friends called and said they were in town for a wedding. We met at the beautiful Broadmoor Hotel for a delicious breakfast and an even better time of fellowship. Couldn't help but think of the old children's song-- "Make new friends, but keep the old One is silver and the other gold."
