Washington, D.C. Sibling Trip--National Botanical Garden

Image
These are all photos taken as I wandered through the many rooms and gardens of the National Botanical Garden. David says this was his favorite place on the trip. If you are not a huge fan of flowers, skip this post. If you are, I'll let you wander without much commentary.   The many varieties of orchards were beautiful. OK, these polka-dots look like they have been painted on the leaves. Bananas Isn't God's creation absolutely AMAZING?!!!

Finally Spring!

Image
I haven't been a very good blogger lately.  I have become enamored with Instagram and it is so easy to post pictures that I often post things there rather than blogging. (If you are on Instagram, my username is karenavengibson). But today, as I gazed out my back window, I got excited about spring  and decided to blog. I spent the week last week in Houston, Texas where the flowers were BEAUTIFUL . When I left Colorado Springs, a few things were blooming, but not much. When I got home, Spring had Sprung. This is a snowball bush that we planted last year. I had never seen this bush before we moved here. I have seen huge ones with flowers that look just like snowballs. Mine is still a baby bush. Purple ground cover. I love the way it grows amongst the rocks. This picture and the next are supposedly the same bush.  Maybe just a different variety??? I love purple, so these blooms make my day. Views from the deck. Hap...

Hoppy Easter--2013

Image
We had a wonderful Easter! One of the reasons I love my Fiesta dishes so much is that you can mix and match colors for whatever table decor you choose. (Of course, every once in a while, if I don't have the right number of dishes for the desired look, I have to buy more-oh, shucks.) These precious "Bunnykins" dishes were gifts to my two children when they were born from their Great Aunt Wilma. I had been wanting to implement this Pinterest idea for a while. The little guys loved their special meal and it was "mostly" healthy. Each egg carton was labeled since each little guy has their own favorites and "I don't like that Nana's". We had to purchase spring flowers since spring has not yet sprung in Colorado Springs. My tulips are peeking out of the ground.   Another cute Pinterest idea.   It was a beautiful day and the egg hunt was big fun.     The funny thing was that both David and Aaron had to stop and examine ea...

Front Porch

Image
This is the sight that I see when I drive in after the sun goes down. My sweet husband always turns on the front porch light for me and the geraniums in my antique washstand never cease to make me smile. Thanks to our friend Bill Walker, who landscaped our lawn at the beginning of the summer, I have had lots of blooms to make me happy. I'm going to miss the color when the first freeze comes, but look forward to seeing them again in the spring.
