My Snow Shoveler

Image
Yes, David's a good man! He was outside in the snow and the wind shoveling the porch, driveway and sidewalks. I was hosting a shower and he didn't want anyone to fall. This California man has adapted to Colorado weather quite well.

Crazy Colorado Weather

Image
We have been having glorious spring weather here in the Springs. It was almost 80 degrees last week. All that ended yesterday with a spring snowstorm. With the snow came the winds. When I looked out my window this morning onto my upper deck, there were only 3 chairs instead of 4. I couldn't imagine where the 4th chair could be. The wind had picked up the chair and set it back down in the backyard. Would have loved to have seen how that happened! We are predicted to be back in the 60's by the end of the week.

Snow Ice Cream=Yummy!

Image
Somewhere in the deep recesses of my memory, I remember my Grandma Aven making snow ice cream with my siblings and me. That has been many years ago and this is the first time that I have ever tried it myself. Since Houston doesn't offer many opportunities for gathering the main ingredient, I didn't have a recipe, so I Googled "Snow Ice Cream" to find a good one. Paula Deen actually had a recipe. 8 cups of snow Her recipe didn't say clean snow, but mine was very clean. 1 can sweetened, condensed milk I used the WalMart Great Value variety 1 teaspoon vanilla Thank you Aunt Terry for introducing me to Watkins Vanilla many years ago. Of course it will taste better if the mixing spoons are the "love" variety. The first thing every superhero does when he is cooking is to wash his hands. Step 2: Taste the main ingredient to see if it is as pure as the driven snow. Help Nana pour the snow in the bowl. Don't you just love his hand on my arm? I do. Pour in t...

You Can Take a Girl Out of the South.......

Snow and Tulips--Springtime in Colorado

Image
Everyone says this is an unusual spring in Colorado. They say that there are usually not snowfalls AFTER Mother's Day. Snow and tulips do make for beautiful pictures. Happy Springtime, wherever you are!

Springtime in Colorado

Image
The theme of springtime in Colorado is that there are beautiful days of sunshine, but don't be surprised if there is a random snow "storm" now and then. The little girl down the street took advantage of our last snow to make a miniature snowman. The next day all the snow around this little guy had melted leaving him standing all alone in the soon to be green grass.

Snow Shovel Controversy

Image
The Patio Home we are leasing has someone who comes and plows out the driveway, sidewalks, and streets when it snows. We happily watching this man's hard work this morning from the comfort of our warm and cozy home. Now you might wonder what is controversial about that. Well, here is the issue. Since the home we are buying does not have the same service, I very kindly offered to buy my sweet husband a snow shovel. He, on the other hand, being the enlightened man that he is, said that he would buy me one. So you get to vote with your comments. Who should shovel snow? The husband or the wife?

Let It Snow!

Image
It has been snowing in the Springs for about 3 days. A light feathery snow. Psalms 147:16 He sends the snow like white wool; he scatters frost upon the ground like ashes. What a beautiful world God made for us to enjoy! Have a beautiful week, whether you have snow, rain, or sunshine. God made it all for our enjoyment!

Crazy Colorado Weather

When my family was trying to convince me to move from warm Texas to cold Colorado, they kept telling me that the cold wasn't the same in Colorado. They said there could be snow on the ground and if the sun was shining, you wouldn't feel cold. I didn't really believe them because I am such a cold natured person, but today I became a believer. Today is Halloween and earlier in the week the temperature was in the teens and it snowed for two entire days. But when the sun came out, we were back in shirt sleeves with the windows open to let in the nice breeze. Most of the snow had melted, but in some spots where it was shady or where the snow plow had piled up the snow, there was still plenty of the white stuff for little boys to play with. Who can resist un-trampled on snow? And when your grandpa carves out a snow tunnel, it is the greatest. This little snow bunny loves his "mummy". Did I say that little boys enjoy the snow? I meant little and big boys. Caleb lov...

Amazing Sight

Image
There is the distinct possibility that you might get tired of my "Snow" posts. But please indulge me at least for this first snow season. I am like a kid in a candy store and every new sight amazes me. The pictures below are of the snow formation in one of our basement window wells. It looks like a giant Marshmallow landed on the top of the window well and just decided to sit there. Reminds me a little of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs , a great children's book which has been made into a movie. I have been trying to hang out downstairs some today as the sun melts the snow hoping that there would be a giant crash as the snow avalanches to the ground. Instead, there seems to be a steady drip, drip, drip.... The Raggedy Anns and Andys (some of which were handmade by my Grandma Bergeron) usually sit up, but they are a little tired from watching the snow fall outside their window.
