Book Review--Son by Lois Lowry

Image
Son by Lois Lowry My rating: 5 of 5 stars This was an amazing sequel to The Giver.  I am so glad that Ms. Lowry decided to write the book to let us see the end of Jonas and Gabriel's story.  I LOVED it. View all my reviews

Great-Nephew Graham

I love being an aunt. Which makes being a great-aunt even sweeter. This is my newest great-nephew, Graham David. David and I were blessed to be able to be at his baby dedication in Houston. photography by good friend Lance White

Christmas Decorating 2012

Image
Caleb and David came over and helped me trim the Christmas tree.  Aaron would have been here, but he had a previous engagement. Aren't 2 year olds too young to have previous engagements?  :)  Caleb is the perfect size to crawl under the tree and lay out the Christmas tree skirt. He's also old enough that he is fascinated with each new ornament that comes out of the box.   He loved this Fisher Price school ornament that his mom gave me last year. I enjoyed hearing his ooh's and aah's.   David mostly enjoyed playing with his toys while Caleb and I worked. My tree decor is very unique this year. Lots of ornaments clumped (or should I say grouped) together close to the bottom of the tree. I am OK with that. We're making memories not an exquisitely decorated tree. I pray for you to enjoy this special time of the year and that you will not get stressed out by all that has to be done. Stop and smell the roses, or the poinsettias.

Happy Halloween 2012

Our little goblins this year were Batman, Monkey, and Super Grover. It was also great to have church friends and neighbors stop by. We gave them candy. They gave us hugs. I'd say that's a pretty fair exchange. HAPPY HALLOWEEN JUST A LITTLE LATE.

Personal Goal Achieved

Every year, I set a reading goal for myself. Some years I reach the goal; other years I do not. This year, I have reached my goal of 112  (because it is 2012) books and it is only November 6th.  Who knows how many more books I might read? The final two books were finished today. Both books were by authors that my niece, Jenny, the middle school librarian, recommended to me. I listened to this book on CD while driving in my car. That's a great way to get extra books read. It was hilarious!  I found myself laughing out loud at several places.  I wonder what the drivers around me were thinking. Laugh with the Moon by Shana Burg was a fantastic read.  As the book flap promises, it is wise, warm, and brilliant. For some of you, the following message is "preaching to the choir", but be patient with me. If you have not read any children's or young adult books lately, treat yourself.  They are some of the most well wri

Book Review--Glory Be by Augusta Scattergood

Glory Be by Augusta Scattergood My rating: 5 of 5 stars This is an excellent debut children's novel.  Set in Mississippi during the turbulent 60's, it shows a very human side to the civil rights struggle.  I highly recommend it.
