Fantastic Garage Sale Finds

Image
Our neighborhood had a community garage sale today. I had seen the signs and thought I might go out for just a few minutes on this lovely fall morning just to see what was out there. I really didn't NEED anything, but isn't that when you usually find the best buys? Here are my Fantastic Finds for today! More "guys" for Caleb and then David and Aaron to play with at Nana and Ducca's house. You can never have too many guys. 25 cents each! I don't know the official name of this, but I call it a Johnny Jump Up toy. It hangs from the door frame for a baby to bounce in. One of my favorite memories is Caleb jumping in one of these and laughing, laughing, laughing. The little guys will enjoy using this when they come to visit. $5.00 An oak filing cabinet. I have looked at these new, but just didn't want to pay as much as the stores wanted. Garage Sale List Price=$40.00 Bargained Price = $20.00 Old Fashioned Mixer "It doesn't work," the lady kindl

Mexican Food Buddy

Image
Anyone who knows me, knows that I love my TexMex. When I go home to Houston for a visit, one of the "musts" is a visit (or two) to a Mexican food restaurant. On my past trip, I found my Mexican Food Buddy. This is Nathan, my great nephew. Yes, you are seeing it correctly. He is eating the hot sauce with his fork. He downed a whole bowl of it (minus what found its way to his chin and shirt). Way to go Mexican Food Buddy!!!!

School Days, School Days

Image
I think you learn how to be a grandparent with your first grandchild. All the grandchildren that follow get to benefit from the lessons you learn from the first. What David and I have learned is that being grandparents is one of the greatest joys in life and each new age and stage bring even greater joys. We were lucky enough that we got to take Caleb to pre-school this morning. How did this little man grow so big so quickly? Thought you might like to hear the "leaving for school" conversation. Ducca: I'll be your bus driver, Caleb. Caleb: Good. Hi Mr. Busdriver. Nana: Have a good day at school Caleb. Caleb: I will (spoken with great excitement). Have a good day Grandma! Grandma???? I'm Nana!!! He's never called me Grandma a day in his life. It sounded so cute, like he had learned "Grandma" at school. And you know what? Grandma--Nana! Whatever these precious boys decide to call me, I'm fine with it.

Up Up and Away

There is something exciting about living someplace long enough to begin to have "annual" events. One year ago, when we first moved to Colorado Springs, we attended the Colorado Springs Hot Air Balloon Classic. We couldn't wait to attend again this year so we were up at 5:45 (unheard of for these retired folks) and out the door. Be prepared. This post contains LOTS of photos. The balloons are all so pretty, it is hard to narrow down the selection. We found a spot across the lake from the official balloon launching site. It was a beautiful morning and a perfect spot for seeing the balloons as they took off. These were among the first balloons launched. Aren't they beautiful? This one was unique. Those are green "leaves" hanging down from the daffodils. A patchwork quilt balloon. It's neat to see the people in the balloon baskets. Who says pigs can't fly? Unicorns can fly too. The ducks on the lake were a little confused by the huge "birds&quo

Pumpkins in September???

Image
It is a Gibson family tradition to devour Mellocreme Pumpkins by the fistful during autumn. It's as American as Apple Pie. But this is crazy. Pumpkins in the stores already?? It's only September for heaven's sake. Miss Lea, you're going to have to wait a while for your pumpkins. (Inside joke--if you don't get it, it's OK).

Fun in the Park

Image
My little guys love parks! I think it has been passed down to them from their grandfather through their parents. David used to delight in finding new parks to take Kelly and Jeremy to. I think they have probably experienced almost every park in the southeast section of Houston. Now our grandchildren are learning to love parks. Caleb used to yell out "Pok, P0k" when we passed by the one close to our home. This is adorable Aaron on his first slide adventure. This is delightful David getting his first feel of grass. There's lots of "fun in the park" in our future. P.S. I think my children's favorite park was the "crabbing park" off of Nasa Rd. One. We would take bacon slices and spend the afternoon sitting on the pier fishing for crabs. We even had at least one birthday party there. Fun memories!
